Step Aerobics is very popular for doing at home because of the unlimitless supply of step aerobic exercise videos (Jane Fonda's is very popular), DVDs, and music. The step choreography and routines don't require much space and are easy to do in front of the TV as a step aerobic pattern does not travel far from the stationary step.
The other factor that makes this form of exercise popular at home is the low cost of step aerobic equipment. All you need is a pair of high quality Reebok aerobic shoes, a step aerobic bench or step aerobic step, a music tape, video, or DVD. Tapes and patterns are available for the beginner all the way to the instructor level. Teaching yourself step aerobic choreography is a simple task.

 

If you’re looking for a good workout that can be done nearly anywhere, the jump rope may be your equipment of choice. Long the first choice of tough boxers and little girls, jumping rope is excellent aerobic exercise. It also helps with balance and control, as your footwork becomes fancier and faster. It’s cheap, light and portable and fun. Jumping rope gets your heart rate up fast and keeps it there.

Always start by stretching first, (don’t forget to stretch your feet and ankles too) and warm up slowly so you don’t pull a muscle. You’ll want shoes with good support and plenty of headroom above to prevent broken chandeliers. Be cautioned though: jumping rope is for people whose joints are healthy and strong.

 

This intense workout focuses on the lower body, particularly on the quads, gluts, and hamstrings. Using special stationary bikes that increase endurance, a typical class will start with a warm-up followed by a series of aerobic moves referred to as lifts and climbs. During each class, you will simulate riding through hilly and flat areas where you will be guided to pedal at different speeds, with intervals of riding standing and sitting.
